Before you make a final decision on a well drilling contractor there are a few issues you need to consider:

North Florida Water Systems, Inc. operates a modern rotary drilling rig utilizing mud and air. Owner, Robert L. McMillan, Sr., and his son, Robert Jr., are personally involved in the drilling of your well and are committed to providing you with a well producing quality water.

All wells are drilled utilizing a method known as "mud rotary". An 8 ½" hole is drilled down into the aquifer. A 4" PVC casing is then set in the hole. At the end of the job Bentonite grout (dry clay added to water to make slurry) is pumped around the casing. The well is capped off with cement at the top of the well.

In our early days of business we drilled a well by driving steel casing into the ground. Some contractors still utilize this method. The main problem with steel is that it rusts causing holes to form in the casing. Also, when when water and soils mix they form an electrolysis reaction that can actually cause holes to be cut in the casing. This can cause your well to become contaminated by sand. We have seen this occur numerous times over the years. Due to this North Florida Water Systems, Inc. made the decision to no longer drill utilizing steel casing but to exclusively use PVC in order to provide a well that is much superior in construction to our customers.

The heart of every well is its pump and motor. There are basically two kinds of motors offered. One is a three wire motor which has a control box on top of the well 50-150' from the motor with a relay and capacitors in it. The second kind is a two wire motor that has no control box, therefore, no controls to breakdown. Two wire motors have been built this way long before I ever entered into the well drilling business and are by far the better of the two motors.

When it comes to service and reliability, a two wire motor has a lightning arrestor in front of all components. If a surge comes into the motor the arrestor opens up, and then closes back once the motor has cooled. A two wire motor also has an auto reverse mechanism that reverses the motor automatically if the pump binds up. In a few seconds it returns to normal operation.

An example of the effiency of a two wire pump was seen during a service call when a 35 year old pump was pulled and the pump was worn out but the motor ran like a new one. This motor and pump had never been pulled out of the well. In comparison, three wire motors break down at a significantly higher rate due to the fact that the controls are mounted away from the motor. This results in an increase in motor failure which leaves the customer without water requiring the cost of a service call.

While discussing the pros and cons of a two wire pump versus a three wire pump with a Franklin Electric Motor Technician, he stated that he would only install a two wire motor at his home. At our personal homes we have only installed pumps with two wire Franklin Electric motors.

One of the oldest "tricks of the trade" in the pump repair business is to sell only three wire motors to insure future service work. North Florida Water Systems, Inc. installs only two wire pumps to provide our customers with the most reliable product in the market.

We install Water Softeners and Water Treatment Systems. Call today for a complete list of products offered.
